Since buying my RR back in 2006, I've tried to save all of my receipts. For everything, even down to little things such as hose clamps... I've had them all stuffed into several manila folders over the years. During my vacation, I got them out and tried to organize, sort, and calculate them up on a spreadsheet I created.

Right now, I'm up to almost $29,000.00. This total doesn't include the car itself, and the second 383 I had to buy several years ago. It also doesnt include all of the tools I've bought over the years as well. I had a decent set of basic hand tools prior to this, but over the years I've added quite a bit more. I'm also missing receipts for certain things, of which I have no clue the value of...

I always knew that I had WAY more into the car than what I could ever get out of it, but WOW.... With all of the tools and extra things, I'm positive Im over the $40,000 mark...

Yeah, no kidding. By the time I factor in the vacation trips to Carlisle and the Nats, and the little things I've bought without receipts, Im well over $50k I'd wager.

I did the same thing a couple months ago,I paid 20,000.00 for my car and the receipts that I tallied up came to over 8,000.00 in just a year and half and thats probably not all the money because I know there are receipts that I may not have put in the envelope, but hey it is a great hobby or Illness that has no cure.

I've also tried to keep receipts on the things I've bought for my 3 cars. But I haven't tried to total them up yet. Maybe I'm afraid to find out how much I've actually spent on all of them! That could be real scary!

I intentionally didn't save my receipts for this reason. I knew I would just get upset if I knew exactly how much I've spent.
My estimate is around $40k so far for my restoration. Considering I'm still a long way from actually driving my car, it's can be depressing. I also got the car for free!!!

Paying for the body, panels, and paint twice was what screwed me. I lost about $8k in that deal.

My fiance says the car is keeping us financially hostage.
I look at this way. I'm 33 year old with a great job. I can afford it now, and there is no way in hell I will be able to do this down the road. Especially with my oldest starting college in 4 years.

Funny I'm always asked "when is that car going to be done??" I just hand them the classic industries catalog and they say "holy shit!!" That and I don't see anyone giving me a hand wet sanding or
Bondo! Everyone's going to want a ride when it's done though haha. Lets see: motor rebuild, center console, shifter handle, new interior, exhaust system, sheet metal, bumpers.........
