Converting Automatic to 4-Speed: Parts needed?

Hey Folks,

I will be converting my RR to a 4-speed. Its currently an auto on the column. With that said, I'm looking to put together a list of all parts that will be needed to do this. Any input/help would be appreciated.

1.) Is there a particular A833 to look for as I know it needs to be a big block tranny. Tranny codes that would help me make sure it is the right tranny?

2.) Would I need a different steering column or is it possible to remove the automatic letters on the column and fill in the gap with a plate?

3.) Any particualr brackets or cross-members.....structurally speaking on the car it self that will be needed? Something that the Automatic did not have?

Heres what I'm guessing I need:

-A833 tranny for big block w/ bell housing
-clutch/brake pedal assembly
-shift linkage
-manual steering column or something to fill the gap once the automatic lettering is removed

What else?

This outfit advertises on ebay . It doesn't show the B Body setup but they have what ever package you want , price seems pretty good to me . When I convert my 68 Charger over to a four speed I might go with these guys . I don't need one of those fancy smancy five speeds with overdrive.

That looks pretty good,you probably couldnt buy all that for $3000.00 and have it in that good condition

Looks like you are on the way, you have a list started. Not sure but I think you can buy the pivot boll that either bolts to or welds to the frame that connects the Z-Bar to the bell housing. You might also need to purchase a reverse light harness and reverse light for the dash. Not sure if your existing neutral safety switch harness will convert over. Also might want to check your exhaust and how it is ran. You can use you existing drive shaft and transmission cross member. Good luck it is worth it.

Z bar, and associated parts, (bushings, wear washers, seals, clips, etc.) Clutch rod (not sure if that's included with pedal assembly). Grommet for fire wall to seal around push rod. Not sure about the speedo cable, But I would assume that you would need to get the correct speedo pinion.

never delt with Brewer's, I think Dobie got his stuff there, never heard any bad about them. I've delt with Jamie Passion, he's the best!

Dave is 100% on the spot with jamie.
Can't go wrong with him as I have one of his trannys in my car now along with rods and levers to. :thumbsup:

I am also in the process of doing this and I think your gonna need a different driveshaft, too. It may of been mentioned but I could of missed it. Also, there is a bracket that bolts through the firewall very close to the drivers inner fenderwell that has welded studs on it aimed in toward the interior and holds the support plate under the dash for the clutch pedal. Not sure if the "kits" have this or not. I think only the 4 speed cars got it cause my Auto car does not. Update us on your progress.

driveshafts are the same. I swapped a driveshaft from a 727 to a 4 speed and same same.

Doesn't it depend on the flywheel spline count, or are the flywheels interchangeable too? Never done this and would like to learn.

the driveshaft goes intot he tail shaft of the trans. autos don't have a flywheel, they have the touque converter, and the 4 speed has the flywheel, both are on the front anyway. same thing when i changed my truck from a 5 speed to an automatic, used the same driveshaft.
