well engine guy called for parts i have....oil pan/gaskets...etc......he finally is working on it.....so he says you...you ready for the bad news.....oh shit here we go.....hes says the new diamond pistons are 100 grams lighter then the je pistons....with the pins which are heavier with the diamonds......he has to lighten up the crank 100 grams.....so thats going on tomorrow.....he installed the cam bearings by heating up the block and adding blue loctight....cam is in and he needed gaskets for timing cover and oil pan gaskets......looks like i should get her back before the end of the year.....good thing i wasnt in a rush:brickwall:
cool George,
I'm assuming the crank is already balanced so why does it have to be lightened? Why not just balance the piston/pin assemblies? Just curious.....

the crank was balanced for the old pistons/pins/rods....new is lighter....pistons/pins are balanced....but crank was balanced for 800 grams of rotating mass and is now 700 grams.....so crank has to be lightened

it sucks when you have to farm work out, engine or body. they don't have the same schedule you have.

Went over to a guy I know who does custom body and paint the other day and saw a couple really cool hotrods stashed in the dark shadows of his shop , covered in dust with boxes and other shop junk piled on them . I asked what's up with them , he said they been taking up space in his shop for more then two years , called them outer staters and had to take care of the local hotrodders first . He seemed like he really didn't care , like if they didn't like it they could take there pile somewhere else . I'm just glad I know how to do some of this stuff , unfortunately I don't know jack about motors . I don't understand why some shops take on more then they can handle within a reasonable time frame .
