I can't believe I actually got the instrument cluster out w/o popping the windshield but I did it. I am not an electrical guy so here goes...

Am I right in assuming that the power to the dash lights comes in from ammeter? I recently did that mod where you bypass it http://www.madelectrical.com/electricaltech/amp-gauges.shtml was wondering if all the lights in my dash are blown or that I have no power to the dash. If that is where it comes in, what would be a solution to getting power to the dash if I am no longer running power through the ammeter?

I'm guessing it comes in through the light switch.

Yep George is right. Fuse box, then through the dimmer, then to the round connector on the dash circuit board (very top pin). That is your 12 volts for the lamps. The ammeter or bypassing it would have nothing to do with the dash lamps. Look at pages 8-129 and 8-128 in the service manual.

ps. also make sure the circuit board is getting a good ground.
