Temp question

Hello everyone now that the 68RR is running again, hopefully this is the last gremlin. I took it for a ride today and I noticed that the heater hoses and top radiator hose are quite hot compared to the warm bottom hose. I replaced both the water pump and thermostat about a year ago but never got to drive it due to family issues. Just for giggles I dropped the antifreeze and replaced it. When I started it today, I left the radiator cap off and it did suck down additional coolant. I let it idle 10 minutes , I capped it, and took it for a ride. Same scenario. What do you folks think? Why such the temp difference in the 4 hoses?

stuck thermostat?
clogged heater core even though their is heat in the car?
defective water pump?
Or is their still air in the system?

And lastly the temp gauge inside the reads about half way for a 10 minute ride at 50MPH

Thanks for your help.

Thanks again my friend, you fixed my wiper wash issue a few weeks ago. Do you think I bleed the system correctly? I've heard of guys unseating the cap after taking it for a ride (when it cools down some) to let additional air out. Of course a big towel over the cap. Or maybe its working correctly as you say. Mine is a 383 car.

You are fine don't over think it. If you fill it to high these cars have a tendency to pee or mark their territory after parking until it reaches a happy level also.

The heater hoses will be pretty much same temp if heater is not on. Water in and out without air blowing over heater core ( small radiator) to do any cooling
