If any one has an idea of how much base coat paint it will take to paint the car. Just painting the engine bay and the body. Wont paint the trunk and the inside of the car or the bottom the color of the car. That all will be bed lined paint. This should knock down the amount of paint color I will need. If you guy's have any idea let me know. Going to buy it soon. Russ.

Depends on what color. Some colors are more translucent and require more coats for coverage.

If you are going over a gray sealer I would guess a gallon would be more than enough. Remember you are going over it in several directions so you don't tiger stripe the metallic

Started with Matrix PPG and will stay with it. At my other paint store they have shop line. A gallon of base coat is 600 dollars the other guy say's shop line a gallon 200. They say it is a PPG. I don't think so. Tiger stripes man don't need that. Will have to check into that. Think your pulling my leg their Bob. Thanks for the info Black primer. Had to lay off the car body for a while and putting the rear end together. Still healing up so doing bench work instead of being under the car for rite now. Any other info would be appreciated. Have a nice day. :beep:

I used Omni paint by PPG and a good clear on my valiant and it showed metallic striping on the first coat then went across it with the second coat and it went away.

I'd say a gallon should get it. If you are going to paint the engine bay add 2 more quarts. I always like to have a little extra in case of a problem. Add more if you are painting the top, the inside doors, roof, etc. Then you're up to 1 1/2 gal. I've been using the Shop Line Brand and it is working fine. When we used to paint airplanes metallic, we would boxcoat it, so it wouldn't show up so bad.

Ok if I buy a gallon of base coat and reduce 50-50 that will give me two gallon's of spray able paint. When they mix the paint would like to have enough left if I ever need it. Yes hole car get's paint on out side and engine bay. Door's black interior. Yes the roof also. Well saving up for that big expense. All and all will have about 1500 to 2.000 in paint. The color blender is not cheap ether. Also the clear coat. Thanks guy's. :thumbsup2:

I use all PPG products now. I switched from matrix. PPG has a cheaper product called Shopline Plus. I use it mostly.
