Parking brake cable removal

Ok guys, short of total destruction, how the heck does the front parking brake cable come out of the hole in the frame it passes thru? I've never seen a clip like it before and it looks to just squeeze together, but before I lay waist to it, I figured I'd ask. I just want to install the new firewall grommet on the cable, but it sure isn't going on over the top section with the U clip that attaches the cable to the foot mechanism. Thanks in advance'

I put mine on when I had the emergency brake pedal out when I painted it and feed it through the grommet and put it back together

Is it a U shaped clip. Have to unhook from the back bracket that your two rear cables come to. then slide every thing forward. Take it loose from E brake and slide it out might be a clip at fire wall.

Ok, I finally figured out how the grommet has to be installed. I tried taking the pedal assembly out and disconnecting the cable from it, but the cable is made with a U bracket that doesn't come off and there's no way the grommet is going over that. The U bracket I speak of is the one the pin goes thru to attach the cable to the entire foot mechanism.
So...I disconnected the undercar U bracket that connects the front cable to the rear two cables ( where the adjustment is made), but the front cable was still stuck where it passes thru the frame on it's way back. I didn't want to destroy the clip that was retaining the cable, but finally had enough and hit the end of it with a drift and a small hammer. POP...it popped out and freed the cable! Now that I can see the clip, I can see that the clip goes into the hole and then the cable goes into it.I cleaned the outer cable and replaced the grommet by sliding it on from the rear.
Thanks guys, hope this helps the next guy who is replacing that darn grommet.......now I need a beer

AZ Desert,
It has a weird spring clip that fits real tight you might be able to collaps it with a pair of pliers. It would be the dark spring steel but I usually destroy them LOL

I will go along with the beer part. I pulled mine off and in the trash it went. Might have to find that clip you where talking about on the end. Cheer's :drinks:
