I'm buying new wheels for my 70 Satellite, for the rears i'm a bit unsure what tyres to fit

I'm getting 15 x 8 for the rear but they have a 3.75" backspace, ideally I would like 275/60/15 but do you think that size would rub ?

The fronts i'm going with 15 x 7 with 225/70/15 I think, also 3.75" backspace, think that should be ok ?

Many thanks.

Their was a forum not long ago about this issue. Type in the search box and you should be able to find it. The back tire size sound right. Front I am going with the 7 in wide tire. The thing is it makes the back tire look bigger which is the look I would go for. It would be nice to get 10 in wide tires on the back but just not enough room in the tubs. Hope this will help and some of the other guy's will give you a head's up here. :steering:

Is that after you added leaf's to the springs Dave or will they work with out the additions of leaf's. Just to let other guy's know. I decided to go with the 2 and 1/2 recurve spring's. With the six leaf package. Think it might ride a little stiff but can't wait to find out. Think it will be another year before I get to find out. Good luck with the car guy. Russ.

I added leaves because the PO had removed three.

Must have been a low rider guy. That had it before you. That is how mine looked low in the back and high in the front. But my spring's where just worn out no curve left in them.

Rear: 275/60/R15 on 15x8 rims
Front: 235/60/R15 on 15x7 rims
This is what I use.

With what backspace though?
Never measured, the car is bone stock. The spec on the wheels allow for 4.25 backspace though. I have drums in the rear & disc in the front. I have no issues whatsoever. A lot of the guys I asked this question to who have the same car, run the same size tires and wheels, so I was confident with the decision. But my car is a 1969, not a 1970. You should find someone who has a 1970 and see what they run and if they rub.

should be the same '68-70...
I'd go with some N50s, HiJackers, and shackels

This is my current wheels, 18 x 9.5 with 265/40/18's on the rear, not sure on the backspace though, their website lists them as available in 6.75" , 5.75" or 5.25" so i'll have to take one off and check

With the current wheel off any idea what measurements I need to do in the arch to see if they will fit ? So just to clarify I want the 15 x 8 with 275/60/15 tyres and 3.75" backspace, I assume I should just measure from the hub to the wheel arch lip then find out the exact width of the tyre ? Thanks

Nice runner. It seams to me the tub tightens up quick. Found an 10 inch long paint stick will go in the width at the opening. But it shrinks down really quick. Wanted to put 10's on mine but will have to settle for 8's on the back.

I took a measurement and there seems to be 6.5" from the hub to the wheel arch lip

The current wheels on the rear are 18 x 9.5 with 5.75" backspace with 265/40/18 tyres

With the current tyre on there is about 1.5" between the edge of the tyre and the wheel arch
