New RR owner here. Pretty new to MOPARs. My newly acquired '69 has very old tires that I want to replace. Goodyear Eagle GTII's... 235/60R-15 in front (26.1" tall) & 255/60R-15 rear (27.0" tall).

I like the look & the stance, but I'm considering putting 275/60R-15 on the rear to add an extra 1" (28"tall). Is anyone running that setup? Any photos?
My only concern would be whether that might give me too much height in the rear &/or make the fronts look small (or otherwise end up with an odd look).
Comments/opinions??

I chose to put 2 and half inch recurve spring's on this runner. We use to use air shocks and push them pretty high up in the rear. So the tire would not scrub the in side fender at the top. Figured we had problems with the old air shocks blowing out and we use to get truck springs to put under our cars to raise them up. The car looks good as is but a little more rise on the rear and shell look bad ass.

Im running the 275 60/s in the rear with the 235's up front and they look rad

Strange to read about 15” wheels with the 18” and 19” rims these days. Car has just the right stance I’d say also. Of coarse wider on back and a bit taller wouldn’t hurt either. If on a launch weight can be transferred to rear for traction, that’s what is wanted. Um, it’s like shifting the cars stance so pressure is actually applied to rear tires for first several seconds. Not a drag expert by any means but can understand the fundamentals of that. Traction bars are a good addition with leaf springs, keeps them stable from too much twist and look awesome. Didn’t have them on my road runner but did on my ‘Lil Red Express Truck.

Smaller tires will turn up faster for sure but if too extreme in height or width back end will bounce around/over on corners, bumpy roads with the before struts era. Oh too your door seams are perfect, Chrysler insignia on pass. side rocker panel only and right side wheels are reverse threaded so lug nuts don’t spin off; not a bad idea. Try to figure that one out when your a kid lol.

Yes if I was going to drag race my car would have traction bars on it. Those in the picture are way to fancy we use to make our own. Cool picture of them. Brings back memory's of our racing day's. :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Generally speaking traction bars are not needed on a MoPar because the axle is not positioned in the center of the spring like on a Ford or GM product. It is forward of this point. This shorter front spring segment makes it stiffer and it therefore functions like its own traction bar. If traction is a problem then additional clamping on the front segment of the spring and/or the addition of an adjustable pinion snubber is usually all that is required to rectify any traction issues. The Chrysler Engineers knew what they were doing. Leave the slapper bars to the brand X cars...

Agreed on the traction bars and snubber. All the big name racers in the 60s and 70s ran the snubber

That looks great! I'm looking for that extra height in the rear. Looks like you've raised the suspension some as well? You've got more clearance from the top of your rear rims to the fender lip than what I have (see my pic on first post here). Are you running different springs or air shocks?

A couple of 50 LB bags of cement in the trunk will also help. :lol:

You can get a little more lift with taller shackle on the rear of spring. But we had problem's with them wanting to bend. So made some out of half inch plate steel. You do a lot of things when drag racing than on just a driver car. Think Classic sell some a little longer.

That looks great! Thanks for the photo.
I’d like to get just another inch or so between my rear rims & the fender lip.
I guess I would need longer spring shackles or recurved springs.

If its the look you are after that's cool but the more you lift the more traction you loose.

I bought the staggered set of Year One aluminum Rallye wheels, 8" front, 9" rear.
The only tires the rear 9s have worn are 315/35/17 Toyo Proxes TQ drag radials. My suspension is totally stock.
The tires never rub, perfectly centered, are almost 11" wide treadwidth, fine in the rain, great for traction....
And look KILLER!
