074A12ED-68D4-49A2-9FF7-86DCB4142166.jpeg how do I get the (chrome) shift arm off. The arm itself is swaged so the “L” with it is ok. How does it come out of the shifter mechanism. Have a buddies plate shop that is going to strip...copper....copper....copper to clean up the pits then plate.

You need to slip a thin piece of steel down the side of the handle to release it. Service manual explains it, there is one on this site. Do you use Metro plating? They did a set of roadrunner bumpers for me last year for a bit less than AMD replacements, I always heard they were expensive but not in this case. My guy on the west side got shut down.

That darn EPA. Found a shop in Tennessee he told me he could do mine but the Hurst name might not be as clear as before. He would strip it then plate it. Now I am considering using the sliver spray on that is taking the country. You see this paint every where now. You have to spray a clear coat over it with a blue die in it to give that true chrome look. Will post pic's when I do this to my dash gauge bezel as it cost 300 dollars for a new one. Also the shift handle. Russ.

If it is in good shape just have it re-plated. I used Vacuum Orna Metal up in Michigan. $133 shipped to my door and it's perfect.

Thanks again all. And found two other answers here before even asked. Metro plating and got my dash stripped down and was wondering if the bezel should be chrome or not as mine was black paint over chrome. My shifter...a Texas plater buddy has offered to do that.

Well your lucky to have a factory one. Guess I will go with classic tach. and hope for the best. Russ. Oh did you ever find the clear plug for the clock hole.

It is nice to have a buddy in that trade. I depends on what favor he want's in return. LOL. Yep bezel should be chrome. I am going to try the silver paint that every one is using It is real silver then apply a clear coat with blue die in it to give it the real chrome look. Nothing ventured and nothing gained. Russ.
