Anybody spray their car with shop-line basecoat clearcoat versus PPG's Deltron DBU paint and clear? DBU is about three or four times higher than Shopline. I don't want the color to fade in a couple of years, but I don't really want to pay $900 a gallon either.

Just to say I bought two gallon's of base coat not mixed. That gave me four gallons of mixed base coat. Down to one gallon and did not paint the bottom of the car or the inside the color of the car. A friend just finished a 68 charger and it took 3 gallons of mixed paint and painted the inside of the car as well as the trunk and under the car. Matrix is one of the best paint's Or a PPG type paint. Shop line is being used every day in paint shop's. Watch my friend Pete on what type of paint to select. Would type in My friend Pete what type two stage paint is the best and watch his video. 30 years of experience in the auto motive restoration business. Think that is one of the best suggestion's I can give you. A lot of paint job's fade due to paint shops like the old Econ o paint job the paint is thinned out so much that is why they are so cheap. Russ.

Russ, you said that you had a friend that has a car painted with the shop line basecoat and Clear. how does it look? does it look OK or do you think it should look a little better if it had a better brand of paint and clear on it? what is your Outlook on it? I mean we spent like four years or five on these cars and I don't want it to just look OK I want the paint to last for a good while - doing it once is enough!!!

I agree with you on that. I guess that is why I watched My Friend Pete and took his advice on the type of paint to use. He talk's about different paint's to use in his video. From single stage to two stage base coat clear coat. On my friend's car I don't see the depth I got with my paint job. Three coat's of clear on mine and don't remember how many coat's they put on my friend's. I will say the shop line look's good. Still had it color sanded and cut and buffed. It shine's good. Type into your search box My Friend Pete what is the best automotive paint to use two stage and watch his video. He will not lead you wrong. He will tell you the big corporate company's charge big money and that their are other sources of paint just as good. But he did like Matrix or PPG type paint's over the other's. Russ.

I use both the shop-line and the PPG DBC lines of paint pretty much daily. There is a huge difference in them. Even my paint rep says there is not. But that isn't true. I spray shop-line base on insurance jobs(when the formula is available) because it's cheaper and that's what the insurance companies pay for. I spray DBC on all the nicer cars and ALL my personal projects (from cars and bicycles) I like it better. I feel your pain on the price. A gallon of B5 for the runner is 583.00. But I feel it's worth it over the shop-line. Now I go rogue on what I use for all my unders and overs(primers and clears) I spray only SPI. From epoxy to clear only thing else is Shop-line or DBC base. SPI's production and universal clear is the same or better than anything out there.

If I put the base coat shop line on the car and it blends out onto the body of the car area and then later if I come back over it with the DBU paint and Clear, will it eat at the edges of the shop line Base coat, because the Shopline doesn't have a hardener in the base coat, for example: when I spray around the windows and the top and the drip rail and the door jams if it gets out on the car body will the DBU eat it since it has a catalyst in the base Coat?

It's nice to get advice from each other so you can try to figure out which one you want to use before you waste a lot of time and money. Thanks!!! your buddy,Raymond
