Looking to put a new carburetor on my 69 RR 383 that I just picked up. What carb are you stock 383 guys running and what do you suggest I go with? Thanks in advance for all the help.

The motor 383 when buying the car already had a holley intake with a 650 four barrel holley on it. All ways like the holley's.

no holley's and a cast iron intake that would accept a holley if you wanted to swap with some adapting. 1970 had some holley applications. Correction on carbs in 2 posts below

in 68-69 they used a carter 4615, 4616 or 4638 the later two for automatics no holley's and a cast iron intake that would accept a holley if you wanted to swap with some adapting. 1970 had some holley applications.
OK, I'm going to form this more of a question, than a statement. I purchased a 4616 AVS Carter when redoing my car and had it professionally restored with the intention of using it on my car. Later doing more research and advised by others (the Mopar guy who was rebuilding my engine), this Carburetor, although I was told this would be fine for my Roadrunner, it was not the "correct" Carburetor. The 4616AVS Carter is a 4bbl and was used on the 383, but it was the Carburetor for the Non HP 383 with an automatic transmission in 1969. I am not claiming this as fact, it's just what I was advised. At the moment this is sitting on my basement work bench right next to the 4682AVS that I was advised was the proper carburetor. Is this not true? Since they were so difficult to find and the condition of most was so poor, I purchased two in case it turned out one was not rebuildable. Turns out both were able to be salvaged so I have a second 4682. I'm keeping the 4682, but would sell the 4616 if someone wants it. Sitting the two side by side its near impossible to tell them apart.

I neglected to say that some one had put the holley in take and four barrel on it in stead of the original intake and carb that came on the motor. Just was stating that it ran rough and had to do a few thing's to make it run like it ought to. Like not back firing through the carb while trying to crank it and when accelerating. Sorry. Thought it was a know fact that the motor did not come with this combination.

Their is some talk that with ethanol Larger jet's are required. So running a higher Octane or a race gas non ethanol. These car's where running on Unleaded back when it was first introduced. Just some food for thought.

Russ, I was referring to 10% ethanol not 100%. It is known for corroding and plugging up the jets and passage ways and I have not had any issues like that.

That is good to know. I ran the 98 in this motor when working on it and it ran fine also. I know that the 100% what that EF 85 is not good on any thing. Some people say use the bottle of octane boost in these motor's also help's. This subject will be more at hand when I start driving the car. :thumbsup2:

I didn't know who Paul Heard was and all I've got is the interweb.
I'm wondering if a 4 speed car can use either 4711 OR 4615 as was indicated here.
https://www.69roadrunner.net/mopar/threads/avs-4615s-or-avs-4711s-which-one.11830/
Most other interweb sources seem to indicate 4615 for the 69 four speed.
And like the poster 7 in the link above and the post at Dodgecharger.com he references , my 69 RR broadcast sheet has "77" (4615/77) as the carb.
