At is point I would suggest that you get a wiring schematic for the car and start tracing the wires. When you find where they go you might start figuring out what's going on.

Yes what Raodcuda said. I think your on the rite track with what someone else had done to disable the car from being cranked. Or set of some kind of alarm.

I've got a 70 and found some that were hand colored online which look fairly easy to use as I have limited brain power when it comes to wiring. . .

No problem.... I ran across some reference materials for a number of years and various models in those years.

But it is sad when red wires turn pink after year's and purple look like blue also white turn's brown. Then I think it is time for a new wiring harness. :lol:

I once installed the portion of a harness on a 63 Corvette, which wasn't bad at all. But that was just the dashboard. Doing an entire car would be pretty amazing.
