Hello,

I'm looking for info/confirmation what the factory color was for the air cleaner top; I've read that it was not hemi orange in color? Is anyone able to confirm if this is the case and if so, what the proper color should be?

Thanks,

Ian

MMC Detroit use to sell air cleaner lid paint, I have a can. I don't see it any where on line but I can spray a test spot side by side with Hemi orange if need be. Maybe Herbs parts has it.

Just to say Herbs has been bought out by someone else. But it is still in business. I need dash pad paint and don't know of any one else that has it.

Oh oh. I need a can as well. I bought a can of #1177 "Dark Metallic Blue" a few years ago and it was too light . Maybe Herb doesn't have a good match. Might have to break down and have a pint supply store photo match it and make up a can. The color in question is the darker of the two on the door panel.

P.S.
Sorry for the hijack.
My first Road Runner (in '69) had the Air Grabber and if it wasn't "Hemi Orange" it was pretty damned close as I recall. Seemed to match the color of the engine.

I have seen a few where there were sprayed with Chevrolet orange which has more of a red tint to it, and if I remember correctly there is a difference in the color between hemi orange and race hemi orange

I have always painted mine duplicolor hemi orange. I don't like the two different oranges are between the engine and air cleaner lid. I know it's not correct but I like it better.

You are right, they are not the same colour. This lid has never been painted and you can clearly see its different. The blocks on both of these engines are mopar brand aerosol based ‘street hemi orange’. I think the aircleaner lids may be mopar ‘race hemi orange’ but I am not 100%sure on that. I may buy a can of ‘race’ do a test swatch and compare..
It’s not the easiest to see but you can discern at difference in shade.

If you’re not restoring for a concourse restoration, go with your preference on the 2 and enjoy driving her.

Side note- I’ve been looking at the battery toppers and you guys posting those pics aren’t helping. lol

Mine is not a topper. It is an old (dead) repro battery. Gutted and has a lightweight racing battery inside of it.

Mines not a topper either, it’s the real deal. Pretty crazy price tag goes along with it too.

@pkrtse I have seen the lithium ion one put in the shell of an old oem style one like mine before and yours, I like that idea for mine wears out.

I have done 3 like this now. Going on 6-10 years on each of them now (depending which one). Lasts much longer than the repro batteries. And less than half the price.

Yes, it makes a mess. I turned the battery upside down to let it drain for weeks before I could get around to it. Then cut the bottom out and start taking out in sections. The battery is molded (made) around all the plates and dividers. It takes a lot of time and effort to get it all cut out trying not to damage the outer case.
