So here is my DIY plating job on the door latch. Vinegar-water- baking soda. Solution. One boat motor Anode of zinc. Used a 12 volt battery charger at 2 amp trickle charge. It took a while and had to turn it in different directions to get it covered. That is after sand blasting it and cleaned with Acetone. Some place's it would not go to so just going to spray that area with some Aluminum paint. Use Aluminum wire to hang it from. First one used copper bad idea. Copper was transferred But that is ok. It coated parts the working parts in the back. I know it wont rust but will turn black like an old Pennie. So here is the pic. IMG_0101 (7).JPG

Just step into the Lab. It is all due to the net. You can find a lot of stuff on it now day's. Popular Mechanic was the out let for thing's back when. Thought while I was cutting and buffing the fenders and doors might as well try this. It did not turn out too bad. The other one will have to try again it did not want to take the zinc on the top of the latch. If it turn's out I will post it. Russ. Don't use copper wire to hang the parts on or the zinc. Only if you want to copper plate the part. LOL.

Really wanted the part that you see through the door to look better than 50 year old. Think I can live with this and touch up the part that did not take the zinc with some paint. It will stay due to nothing hit's it. I hope. LOL

If you do dodgey68 Make sure you work the zinc in the solution before putting the part in. It dose take some time to get it done. More than a few hour's. This is something that can be working while you work on something else. Think I should have seen if the hard ware store had that zinc strip's they use on house roof's to keep the mold down. bought an anode for a boat motor. So had to keep moving it around and the part so it would transfer. Will touch up with cold galvanized paint where the zinc did not want to transfer. Good luck. Russ.
