I recently replaced my PCV valve, since then I’m seeing oil droplets in the engine bay. The valve is tight in the grommet and grommet is tight in the valve cover. Even before I replaced the valve I’ve had a smell in the car that I thought was gas but it may be oil from the crankcase. I’ve checked the crankcase ventilation system per the 1969 factory manual and everything checks out except there is no vacuum at the oil fill tube on the opposite valve cover. I’ve got lots of vacuum at the carb which pulls through the PCV. There is some oil in the air cleaner housing this may be normal I don’t know. As per the manual this is a closed system, gases should flow from crankcase through PCV valve through carb through opposite valve cover continually to work properly. Why wouldn’t I feel a vacuum at the oil fill tube? Am I barking up the wrong tree?

I’ve got the old style oil cap with vent and it isn’t hooked up but I don’t have a leak or smell oil in the car, I’m thinking your leak is coming from something else

Just out of curiosity, where in the engine bay are you seeing these oil droplets?

Upon further examination, it looks like the end of a small cable tie got caught under the top front corner of the valve cover. This happened when I was reinstalling the cover. I’ve taken the cover back off will reinstall when the new gasket comes in. I also discovered the cover isn’t fitting even on the head, which would explain why it’s been leaking. Over the years it’s been over torqued. Anyone have experience straightening?

small hammer and very thin dolly in channel and dont hit it too hard to even it back out. take your time, light taps

I assume these are OEM covers and not the cast Mopar Performance type covers? If the cast type, hammering on them, as well as over tightening will crack them.

My Mopar Performance passenger side cover would not seal. A little RTV on both sides of the gasket solved my leak.

Yes take your time that metal is thin. Glad you found your leak but sorry that you now have a little work to do.
