Know this has been hashed out before but would like to know what you guy's think of an all around street/driver cam. Jeg's offered a 21-305-4 comp cam. Lift 464/464. Lobe separation 110 degree. Duration 268/276. So that is what they suggest. But I am not running headers just stock exhaust any thought's would be appreciated. With a 650 cfm Holley carb.

Just curious Russ, so educate me here. Why did you choose the Holley 650 over the Carter AVS 4682?

I can cut to the chase here RonLiv. The car had a Holley mid rise intake and the carb on it when I bought it. That part was not stock. I like the Holley and can get parts easy enough. Have used Holley's and my buddies did also back in the day. Thanks for asking. After reading a hot rod Mag. on the 383 they used the 750 Holley and got more horse power on the build they did. With flat top piston's and a little more or hotter cam where up into the 400 HP range and more. But that is not what I am after just a little more HP and a dependable motor. Edlebrock carbs are good also have had a few of them but still lean towards the Holley.

When got my car it had a Edlebrock on it, I don't know which. I gave it away. It just never ran right but that could have been more the purple cam I was told. But I went and searched and found a Carter 4682AVS and it turns out it was toast and could not be rebuilt, then found a 4616 Carter that is what was used on the 69 non-HP motor and had it professionally rebuilt/restored, which I still have, never put it on the car. I found another 4682 and rebuilt it myself, (note to self- never do that again what a pain in the ass, I nearly lost any sanity I had) which is currently on the car and it has been problem free. I had to find a stock intake which was like finding a needle in a stack of needles, but I did. Just in case my work was not satisfactory because going in I never did that before I went and found another one and had that redone professionally. I still have that one as well that I'm going to hang onto pending the most likely result of the one I built failing at some point.

That sound's like a journey for sure. I Know Holley carb's pretty good. Many guy's dumped the stock intake and carbs and went with Holley for more power. Original has some thing to be said for that. A lot of people look to see the original equipment and that is good for the resale end. But as you know this car had already been changed out. I feel confident you did a good rebuild job because it has worked for this long. Good job.

After looking into the Motor cylinder's going to have it machined and looking like I will have to go 40 over to get the jug's straight. Hope that is all it has to go.
