Interesting rust removal process

Now that we are in the dead of winter up here with the car in storage, I needed to do something to pass the time. Got a lot of parts for the car in the shed and I'm stating to clean up some for paint. Trying out rust removal with a little science. Takes a while, but interesting results. Here's the link on how this all works .That's the backing plate for the brake booster. Will try other parts and fine tune the process. If you use a battery charger, it has to be a older one that doesn't need to recognize that a battery is hooked up. What is the proper paint and color for the black parts on the car. Thanks.

You can revert rust with three part's water and one part vinegar. I put it in a spray bottle. Clean the part with stainless steel wool the spray the mixture on it. Clean all the rust you can off. Rinse with clean water. Then spray the rusted area with the mixture. Let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes. It dose need to turn black. Then clean it with clean water and steel wool again. Let it dry then prime it. You will be surprised. You don't have to spend hundreds of dollars for these rust remover's they sell. I did a lot of my metal with this process and was happy with the out come. But as you and I both know if it is too deep in the metal then it is hard to get rid of it. Thanks for this idea also. Ha Ha maybe in Florida you spray anything a water based here and it evaporates in 15 seconds.

Thanks for the replies. Tried doing bolts this time. Didn't turn out that great. If the bolts are greasy, it just doesn't get into the crevasses and threads. Probably needs to soak in carb cleaner first, but that just stretches the whole process longer than I want. Got a bunch of other bolts soaking for the past week in carb cleaner. Will go the mechanical method with these (aka wire wheel on a grinder). FYI started the process yesterday around noon and took them out this morning.

I tried briefly, soaking parts in different concoctions, after days of soaking I still had to wire brush them off.
On all parts I ether wire brushed, grinder, cut out and re-welded with seam sealer or places where I could not reach, a 3M spray extension on "Eastwood" rust converter . I did this on areas between body and body frame areas.

Got bored again. Quite easy nowadays. Got a extra pair of HP exhaust that I wanted to clean up and sell. Since I have time on my hands, well, why not!!!!!

Pretty cool. Used the zinc process to coat some part's and used a bath with the batterie charger to do it. Did a sand blast to clean the headers I have. They did turn out good. like yours. All ways open to new ideas. :thumbsup2:

I have used the electrolysis method one or two times..
It has it's limitations but does work.
The trick with vinegar.
Soak for 48 hours and rust will pressure was off..
It will not come out clean.
3 Dollars a gallon.
Etch And Prep at Lowes Depot will work and cost more but is kinder.
Phosphoric acid.
Evaporust is a specialty itemand I use it on delicate things with small springs like parking brake assemblies.
Pricy but about 60 to 70 dollars 5 gallon on line.
It does work.
Degrease well first.

I was watching a youtube video on Laser rust removal. Does a great job, but the machines are up there in cost, 48 grand on Amazon .
I have used the POR-15 metal ready for rust removal, its okay, I imagine there are better processes out there.

Mixing vinegar and water is a lot cheaper. Even though did buy rust converter from east wood. As well as the product they sell to spray over it once the converter is applied. Then coated every thing with bed liner. If it rust again it is not my fault.
