Hi this is my first post on any form so forgive me if im not the best at this. I have a customers 69 roadrunner with a 440 six pack and a silversport 5 speed transmission. The car has dakota digital gauges as well as a flaming river steering column and vintage air.
I have been chasing some electrical issues on this and wanted to see if i could get some help on this one. So with the key on and you hit the brakes the front park lights come on. When the brake light switch is depressed almost every wire at the turn signal switch connector becomes hot. The new column is a gm style connector and i am suspecting that the previous shop has wired it wrong due to no turn signals work, the hazard lights only work if you turn the turn signal switch to either direction. If the car is running and you turn the headlights on then hit the brake pedal the car will instantly die, so i was first wanted to see if someone has a good colored diagram of the original dash harness connector to the turn signal switch so i can verify that this portion is wired correctly.

Service manual is available on this site. Has wiring design in it. Colored laminated wiring diagram available for about $30. Online. Problem you have described definitely sounds like a miswired connector

The diagram on here is black and white. Colored is from Classic industries. Defiantly something wired wrong. Welcome to the site.

Russ69Runner ok does it show the connector im talking about? i have tried searching online but all i have found is the original connector for the turn signal switch and this has been changed to the gm style connector. I have checked the turn signal switch side to the diagram from flaming river and that is correct but the vehicle dash harness side has alot more wires into it then the column side. Do you know what that diagram is under on this site?

diagram does show wire color in index, you are correct that gm connector is not the same. need to figure out which wire is which and rearrange one or both of ends of connector so correct wires line up. need a little pin removal tool, available at most parts stores for just a few bucks.

Look into manuals on the site for information. Down near bottom in the forum listings. You can download it too your computer and makes life much better to do a quick search. A GM column in a runner OH no. Now it is your turn to find out what the wires out of your column go to. Time to break out the Mullite meter.

Until you get it sorted out, I highly recommend disconnecting the positive battery terminal when the car is unattended.
