First I'd like to thank all that posted responses in the last post. Just got back from a trip. Left the RR with the dyno shop for a week. They did all they could do they thought, then they found a serious vacuum leak coming from the carb gasket if I got the info correctly. Will find out more...

Low end not there but 326 hp and 438 tq at the rear wheels

We put the 670 carb in and capped off the vacuum advance and that moved the curve up about 1000 rpms. Hp is 329 was 293 and tq is now 438 was 401. Runs great on the freeway and after initial acceleration. It is a Whiplash cam and 452 heads. Problem is, it has no low end acceleration, even...

How do you route the fuel line from fuel pump to the carb

Currently my fuel line goes from the fuel pump under the alternator against the block/water pump and up the the carb. The car runs well cool bt when the car warms up, the car doesn't run as well. I think the gas is getting too hot. What is the correct way to run this fuel line on a stock 383...

Whats an exceptable rear main seal leak or is there one?

I finished replacing my rear main seal again. After the first two drives there was no leak. Now there seems like there is a minor leak. I'm taking it to the races at Barona today but not to race. After about a 1/2 drive, I put a piece of cardboard under the car and throughout the night...

Building a second engine and need advice

What is a good quench for the engine? I have a high performance head gasket that is .041. How do I measure the piston in the hole so I can add that number to the .041? I'm reading that the around .045 is ideal for about 10.5-1 compression with flat top pistons. I'm also using 440 heads...

Do you have to remove the trans to change engine rear seal

I read the post about the problem with the leaking rear seal. I ordered the rear main seal kit from Mancini. The mechanic has never done a rear seal change on a Roadrunner and belives this can be done with the transmission installed. So my question is: can you change the rear main seal with...

Green wire going to the alternator not connected, no power

I was looking at the engine trying to see why the butterfly on the carb didn't work when I noticed a thin green wire near the alternator was not connected. I took the car to a friend's shop but he is not familair with old cars. He said the wire going to the alternator was missing and that was...

    Bearings changes noise completely gone

Thank you for the help. There never was any forged piston noise. We changed all the bearings only the main bearings were installed incorrectly. We flushed the engine, inspected the piston and cylinder walls, installed all the new bearings added oil and a new filter started the engine and all...

Think we found the problem with the engine

Sorry for the seperate post. When we pulled the main bearings we found out the oil supply hole for the bearing was on the bottom and on the top where the port is for the oil supply had no oil supply hole so the bearings weren't getting any oil. Does this make sense concerning the problems and...

    Engine problems again, advise needed

I posted this probably last year, thought it was fixed but: I heard the piston noise that they say is expected from using forged pistons and after a little warm up the noise was gone. But when I first started the car and I could hear the pistons, then I stepped on the clutch pedal and could...

    Re-installing the fender tag

When I received my new fender tag I installed it so that you can read the letters and numbers from the side of the car. I was told that you should be able to read them from in front of the car. Which is correct? Also, was the fender tag mounted with screws or rivets? Is the fender tag...

Might have to pull the engine out again

The engine has plenty of hp/tq for street use but the engine makes noise when depressing the clutch. Rebuilt trans and all new clutch parts. A local engine/MOPAR shop sounds like it can be the engine thrust bearing. Any thoughts? How fast should I pull the engine? Thanks, Barry
