I have seen the air cleaner on a 440+6 have the coyote duster decal and other have the checkered "six-barrel" decal. Was there any rhyme or reason as to which was put onto the air cleaner cover? Were both labels ever on the air cleaner at the same time?

Checkerboard 440 Six Barrel decal came on the '70 & '71 440-6 cars. No Coyote Duster decals ever on 440-6 cars that I am aware of.

I do not currently have any decals. I was trying to figure out what was original to the car.

This seems like the original decal.

So was this an aftermarket decal then that people started putting on?

Nope. That is an original '69 Air Grabber lid decal. Would have come on 383 and Hemi cars.

You're building a tribute car - not restoring an original 440-6 car. Put whatever decal you want on the air cleaner lid. My two cents...

Build it how makes you happy. It’s your car. If someone wants to complain, have them pony up some money for their opinion

Good points. I am in the early stages so I am spending time asking questions, researching and learning which is part of the fun of this restoration for me.

Well like my car with out fender tag-non original 383 not number's matching-Four speed found in Co. non number's matching and don't know where the rear end came from but know it is a 741 not a non slip Differential. Building the car the way I would have ordered it. Would like the grip clutch rear end but that will come later in life. IF I LIVER THAT LONG. Ask away and these guy's will have the answer's. I was told the only stupid question is the you don't ask. Russ. :kartman: now where did that beer assistant get to ????????

I went to pain staking efforts to return my car to original. Tore off a perfectly good Edlebrock carb and intake to put the original Carter and factory intake back on. Try finding those. It is a J25 code car, but the car had a two speed wiper, find that one along with the 3-speed switch & little bits. It's not an N96 code car, but I liked that option, so I added it. After all that, it turns out the B7 I painted it isn't the real B7 I'm being told! Agonized for months trying to find a paint code for the V7B striping, the best I could get was a scanned PDF of the color from the Chrysler book at Chrysler Historical. I just used B3 as the lightest factory Blue and it looked close enough to what Chrysler sent. Fact is if the real B7 is what I'm being shown, then you'd need a magnifying glass to see the V7B stripe! But you know what, I don't care, I dig the color as it is. OK, not sure where I was going with this, oh yeah, you're car. If you like the Coyote Duster decal - put'er on there! Sorry for the ramble. Oh yah, its a non matching car.

Engine, Transmission, and Rear Differential all from different cars. The engine is a 69 383 that was pulled from a 1970 Roadrunner, but based on casting date and stampings it clearly came from a 69. The original 383 is in Florida somewhere as the car left Ohio with it, spent a few years there but came back with a 440, that was blown/frozen. So this is at least the 3rd car this motor is in. The 727 torque flight came out of a 70 Coronet, and the diff is the correct 8 3/4 banjo but when pulled apart the stampings on the gears were from and A-body.
