    Hello all.

After I've had my 69 out for a ride, I place it back on the charger (Battery Tender Jr by Deltran) and the battery always needs some charging. Is this normal, if not, can you give me some diagnosing ideas.

    Thanks,
    Mike

Mine is the same way, once it goes on the tender it needs a brief charge then green.

Check cells, make sure all are full, check voltage and make sure at right level, could also be normal for most battery chargers to start up and then see how battery reacts and go to green if good.

Thanks everyone. The tender goes back to green but it takes some time. I'm talking hours. The battery is a brand new Interstate. The starter kicks overfine and seems strong. Alternator is brand new. I was thinking about calling the alternator manufacturer and see what they say. It may be like you're saying normal but it's the length of time it takes to go back to green is what's puzzling me.

Did you try a different type charger. It may be the sensing unit in the charger. Depending on these newer unit's it may go to a 2amp trickle that is why it takes so long to charge what is remaining to top the battery off. Just a thought. :thumbsup2:

You're right. I do believe the Tender Jr. is a 2amp trickle charger. I'll try something different and see what happens and let you know. Thanks!

Russ has a good point but don’t forget a trickle charge isn’t a quick recovery type. A volt meter would answer all questions.

Just to say if it crank's good then after driving it and shutting it down for a while like a few hours or so. Then it cranks good then you don't have any problem's.

That's what I was telling myself but I guess I wasn't listening to myself! It's great to have this group and be part of it. So many members with so much experience, especially with the classics. Can't beat it. Thanks to all and thanks Russ.
