What's the best way to remove the Z-BAR on a 69 RR, Take out side nut off first and then unscrew from bell house?

Thanks Tom C.

Loosen the frame rail side lift up and it falls apart if the linkage is disconnected. No reason to remove the ball off of the bell housing unless its wore out

Watch out for the little nylon pieces around the ball inside the z-bar. You will need them to reinstall it. They fall off pretty quick when you slide it off .

Yeah and if you've never had it off or haven't had it off in a while you may need a new one

I took an old accelerator spring, enlarged few coils to fit the slots in the plastic pieces, and cut off a single coil. I then put the two plastic halves around the ball and locked them in place with the cut coil. They cannot fall off now.
