Well folks it's been a struggle but finally, as of Friday, my 383 is running correctly! I've had this car for over 3 years now, and in January I had it towed to garage. It would run, technically, but took 5 minutes to get it to hold idle and it hesitated badly on acceleration. Carb rebuild time...
Hey gang -
Lots of progress on getting the 383 bird on the road. Car is now running, though not running great. The Holley was rebuilt, engine full tune, including timing. Takes at least 5 minutes to get it to hold idle, and kinda hesitates when you give it gas, then picks up and runs forward...
Hey folks - trying to get dash out so I can replace with a new panel from Classic Ind. I took the 5 obvious screws out (I think it was 5) today but the thing does not budge.
My B-body shop guide seems to cover every B variant with a diagram but the RR for some reason, well I can't seem to find...
Just got in new horn from Classic Industries and wrenched it on. Easy. Made a video of it, maybe I'll do a YouTube channel on Road Runner stuff at some point. Anyway, the old horn sounded just terrible and the new one, PERFECT. . . Meep, Meep!
My horn is very rough sounding, and I think the easiest thing to do is just replace rather than rebuild. Does anyone know if the Classic Industries replacement horn ($78 or so) is any good?
Was idling 1970 RR in garage and it was cold and stalled out. Which is typical until it's warmed up. Fired up again, and watched dash oil pressure go up to 30 or so, then needle just slowly fell back to nothing. Shut it down.
Next day, fired it up everything normal. Warmed it up. Started...
Working to get this RR back on the road. Last night tested lights at night. Just about everything working which is great, but everything just kinda dim. Could this be a lighting ground wire that has lost good connection to frame? And, if so, where on the car its the lighting ground connected to...
Trying to figure out if carpet has ever been replaced on my 70 383. Here are 3 shots showing under the sill plate, carpet lifted up with brown felt liner, and also the wear pad under the driver pedals. Does anyone have any insight as to whether this is original carpet or replacement?
I've got to remove front buckets to get reupholstered and am wondering if there is a way to remove just the seat, while leaving rails in place.
I see that by removing 2 bolts (under car), each rail should come out, so I can do that. But wondering if there is some way to override the slide stop...
Gentlemen-
There is a VIN on my dashboard up by windshield and also on fender tag.
I don't see a stamped VIN on radiator supports anywhere, and on the trunk lip driver side there is a 5 digit number stamped from below pic attached.
Are there any other locations on car? Want to make absolutely...
My 70 has this little contact switch that the hood presses down when closed. Someone must have moved wiring to it ages ago.
Is this something that came from factory? I was thinking maybe this set off an idiot light on one of the gauges when hood wasn't latched. Then again, this car is so simple...
Hey folks,
A friend told me that the Road Runners have different rear leaf springs (Super Stock I think he said they were called) in order to counteract torque under hard acceleration.
So I looked under the car today and sure enough, I counted a 7 leaf spring on driver and 5 on the passenger. I...
I'm still kinda new to this 1970 383 and haven't gotten it on the road yet. I'm quite sure this car was kept in a garage and only ran seldom, if at all, for a period of maybe 6-10 years before it became mine. I know the previous owner never registered it, so it was not driven. Don't ask me why...
I've got a 1970 383 that shows 34,000 and change on the odometer. Although who knows what that actually means.
So I don't know the history of this car, and really wondering if engine was ever rebuilt. Are there any signs that indicate a rebuild? If the car says 34,000 maybe that means 134,000...
On my 1970 with 383 my oil pressure at low idle is 20 and if I take it up to about 1000 rpm (in neutral not on road) it goes up to 40. Does that sound right? Couldn't find any info on this anywhere, figured you guys would know. Thanks.
I've got 2 different plastic grills on the rear speakers. Installed with different screws (naturally). Were there any plastic grills originally or are there just slots for the sound to come through?
Have a 1970 with console. The circle lights on either side work, but the plastic has yellowed, I'm thinking it was white when new. Two screws remove the assembly, but does anyone know how to pull away the light socket? I'm guessing you just give it a hard pull but thought I'd ask. Second, anyone...
