BTW, My health insurance has been over $700 monthly for a high deductible plan for quite a while now. Pretty typical premiums.

Some people that have employers that are paying part of their premiums... They're in for some real sticker shock when they find out what the real costs are.

John, for the past 10 years I haven't had health insurance. I believe in "Preventive Health Insurance" in eating the right foods and staying active. I don't eat meats, dairy products, and avoid processed foods. My resting heart rate is low 40's. Blood pressure is typically in the mid to low 70's, have low cholesterol levels and am active with no real family genetic health issues other than heart failure lol, which I personally contribute to my grandparents poor eating choices and way too much meat. Please see the documentary "Forks over Knives", on Netflix and Fat, Sick, and nearly dead, also on Netflix for further clarity. Or read the book "The China Study".

Anyhoot, enough of that tangent... ... I just honestly could never see myself paying $700/month for Health Insurance. That's a crime in itself and I'm sorry if you've bought into that.

I have changed my diet radically and it is great , I agree with you but you can never have too much meat! I don't eat any grains, any sugar, even cut out potatoes and corn so my list of food choices is short. I eat a ton of meat and my cholesterol is good. I think the cholesterol thing is overblown, my family line has had high cholesterol and most have lived into their 90s. i get my bloodwork every 3-6 months so I have tested different things. I ate beef everyday for 3 months and my Cholesterol only went up 10 points.

I didn't "buy into" anything. I have health insurance so that if myself or my wife (my kids are grown) become sick or get hurt, it does not devastate us financially. Note the word "us". I happen to know there's more than just me to worry about. I've worked very hard all my life and don't want to gamble on losing everything to insane medical bills. While I think $700 is too much, I also know that is typical insurance premiums for my area.

I also carry car insurance, business insurance and "key man" life insurance for work. It's all necessary as the risk outweighs the cost.

BTW, don't assume anything about me. At 58 years old, I'm probably healthier than you will be at 58...

John,

I believe it's called "Key Person" insurance :acme:

I'm happy to hear that you are a healthy man! One day if you and I meet, we'll have to see who can do something the most or longest to see who's fitter? I don't know something like standing on one leg or being quiet the longest :encouragement:

Kudos, I wish my dad was in better health, but he's too stubborn.

Rocket, good to hear you're cognizant of your personal health too. It's unfortunate many Americans aren't more health conscience to make better eating decisions. Instead, we think the doctors will help/save us from our personal conditions when its time. Not realizing the medical field is a huge BUSINESS in pills and medications and oftentimes is only going to "treat" the symptom for a very long period of time; basically on a monthly prescription basis.

A quick note on beef, if you find the time to watch "Forks over Knives" it's a great documentary that documents that meats (through tests) are a carcinogen (Cancerous) to our bodies as well as the cause of many heart failures and bypasses. President Clinton was placed on a non-meat diet after his bypass surgery. Why? Big meat and big dairy want us to keep drinking their koolaid. Does it really make sense to have an animal digest and synthesis our proteins for us? lol. Why not get the protein firsthand straight from the source (fruits/vegetables/nuts etc.) in its purest state? The Book "The China Study" discusses this in detail with nearly 1 Billion of Chinese citizens documented.

I'm all about living old, but more senior to quantity is quality, and being active and mobile in those years. I want to be 90 years old and be in the game, not a spectator! :)

got this by email today - Making America Sick

Making America Sick

Mr. President, Fox News isn't what's making Americans sick about your healthcare law. Your healthcare law is.

Welcome, everybody, I'm Neil Cavuto. And excuse this departure from form. But I think this is just poor form. So, it's time we set some things straight.

Mr. President, we at Fox News are not the problem. I hate to break it to you, sir.

You are. Your words are. Your promises are.

We didn't sell this healthcare law. Sir, you did. Remember this?

President Barack Obama: If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor. Period.

Mr. President, tell that to tens of thousands of retirees at IBM and Time Warner and dozens of others, who've been dumped from their coverage and told to find their own coverage. Fox News didn't break that news to them, Mr. President. Their companies did.

Fox News didn't push more of those firms to hire part-time workers. Your healthcare law did.

Fox News didn't incentivize fast food restaurants to scale back their benefits. Your healthcare law did.

Fox News didn't make doctors want to opt out. Your healthcare law did.

Fox News didn't make insurance premiums sky rocket. Your healthcare law did.

Just like Fox News didn't grant hundreds of exemptions to companies that needed them. You did.

And Fox News didn't delay one key provision after another, including online enrollment for those small business exchanges. You did.

Just like it wasn't Fox News that said we had to pass this to see what was in this. You did. Or was that Nancy Pelosi? Sometimes I'm confused. But of this I am not:

Fox News didn't re-do basic math. Sir, you did. Fox News didn't say you can cover 30 million more Americans and not see a hit in premiums. You did.

Fox News didn't say you could throw in those with pre-existing conditions and not have to pay for it. You did.

Fox News didn't all but say you could get something for nothing. You did.

Fox News didn't come back years later and say, oh yea, we did raise some taxes. You did.

Here's where you are right about Fox News, however, Mr. President:

We can do math. And did. You cannot. And did not. We said it, and proved it. You didn't. And we're all suffering for it. Take it from the numbers guy at Fox. Numbers don't lie. The number of Americans working part-time and nervous. The number of retirees days away from being dumped on exchanges and anxious. The number of company bosses with any news to pass along on those exchanges, but still clueless. The number of doctors who want out. The number of congressmen now opting out. No, Mr. President, none of those numbers lie.

But with all due respect sir, I can only conclude you do know; and I know too, I know you hate us at Fox.

But please take a look in a mirror, and fast. You think we're the skunk at your picnic. But that doesn't mean we're the ones that stink. Because that smell isn't coming from the folks reporting on your law. Mr. President, that smell is your law.

You really should think about picking up a copy of this book the next time you're out.

OBAMACARE NIGHTMARE BEGINS
from a FB friend, kept anonymous by intent:

IF YOU APPLY AND DON'T BUY -- THE FEDS HAVE ALL YOUR INFO TO IMPOSE PENALTIES

"I actually made it through this morning at 8:00 A.M. I have a preexisting condition (Type 1 Diabetes) and my income base was 45K-55K annually I chose tier 2 "Silver Plan" and my monthly premiums came out to $597.00 with $13,988 yearly deductible!!! There is NO POSSIBLE way that I can afford this so I "opt-out" and chose to continue along with no insurance. I received an email tonight at 5:00 P.M. informing me that my fine would be $4,037 and could be attached to my yearly income tax return. Then you make it to the "REPERCUSSIONS PORTION" for "non-payment" of yearly fine. First, your drivers license will be suspended until paid, and if you go 24 consecutive months with "Non-Payment" and you happen to be a home owner, you will have a federal tax lien placed on your home. You can agree to give your bank information so that they can easy "Automatically withdraw" your "penalties" weekly, bi-weekly or monthly! This by no means is "Free" or even "Affordable."
