May have to have it cut down at a machine shop. 10/40 axel steel is Many rod's twisted together in the heat process. Built a trike with a Harley rear end extended it to get the width I wanted and had to find the 10/40 steel to have them made. Now some one else may have a better answer. Russ. :thumbsup2:

make sure the buttons did not fall if they did that will stop the axles from going in or they fall down and you have to pull the chunk

Hmm, have done that a few times, we’d call internal a pig. Always wondered if bearings were fully seated, would need to get those pressed on with Arbor press. Never had a problem, could Chrysler have that many different parts combos in those days?

Don’t forget Plymouth was on its way out even in ‘68 until the road runner intervened. Seemed to me almost any part would work with anything else; within reason of coarse. Well, Plymouth dragged on maybe 8 more years and then Dodge ruled. Yes, had a few varieties of those. Nobody wanted road runners in those days, destined for the parts yards or shredded. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plymouth_(automobile)

I agree that the roadrunner was not hipped up like Cuda-Charger. Also Ford and Chevy still ruled in those day's. Saw a lot of Duster's and other Plymouth and Doge car's on the road. But always had a love for the 69 Roadrunner. When seeing my first one on the road that a friend of mine had I was taken by it. It was on wanted one and now I have one. Russ.

Check your axle length (old ones and new ones) just so you know what you have there. I'm wondering if you might have an earlier B-Body 8-3/4" differential on your hands. Lots of things got changed on these cars over the years... If that is the case and you bought the new axles for a '68 housing then you'd be off by about 5/16" on each side. If your lengths are the same then you need to start looking at the center section as mentioned above. Also, not sure what "The jackpot was #9 pos ?" means. Please elaborate. Here are the 8-3/4″ axle shaft lengths (from the splined end to outside flange end) that I mentioned:

’65-’67: 28-7/8″
’68-’70: 29 3/16″

Thanks for the info I had the jackpot out and checked the shaft that the ends of the axle spline rest up against and it seems to okay. I will check the length again see whats up thanks again. The #9 jackpot refers to three different types 741,742 and 489 which I have (#9)

Yep you got the good differential. I have the old 741 but one day hope to put a dana in my car. But rite now just want to get her finished. Also drive the heck out of it. Of course I am making a driver and not a race car. M4speed keep us up on the car always like to see what other guy's are doing with their car's. Russ. :steering:

Never heard the center section called a jackpot before. Heard banjo, pig, pumpkin, and chunk...

Nothing wrong with a 489. Most people that don't like them just don't like the crush sleeve.

AZ Desert,
Until they came up with the spacer that replaces the crush sleeve I prefered the 742. Never heard the term jackpot either
