I would keep the original colour myself, If you want a 4 spd go for it. Put the auto in a corner and keep it for future. At least you will have the correct pieces. But as others have said, It’s your car, build it the way you want.

Pair of blade type snap ring pliers should be able to spread the ring and pull it off, you might want to mark the wheel so you get the new one back on the same spot as I think that part cancels your turn signals when turning
Yes it does, This car was built in the mid 70s and it has never been changed. It was the way to do the cars back then. It is still perfect the way it is and it brings back the time.
