1968 Plymouth Road Runner

Odometer shows 37,650 now. The second owner of the car, was Mitch LeFevre. When he restored it, the odometer showed 36,920. This is documented in the Title.

This 1968 Plymouth Road Runner was ordered in early 1968 by Peter J. Kolgen from Anacostia Chrysler Plymouth in Washington D.C. He was 28 years of age when he bought the car after returning from the US Navy as a Captain. Captain Kolgen took possession of his new Road Runner on April 3rd 1968. As you will see , he ordered this car with some very special options, not normally seen on these stripped street bruisers. I have the original sales invoice, and the mint condition certicard in the owner’s manual pocket, owner’s manual has service records with entries, and much more documentation. The car was parked around 1990, until Mitch purchased it in 2001. He collected restoration parts and pieces for the next few years.

Lots of NOS and Mopar numbered OE parts have been added, making this 68 Roadrunner a very correct and reference quality vehicle. This car underwent a complete Rotisserie restoration starting in 2008. Every part of this car was disassembled and restored or replaced, including correct fasteners. Every original rebuildable part was restored. Every part was returned to its original color as found during disassembly. Mitch was the first person to disassemble this car. The aim with this car was to have it appear exactly as it did on the Dealership lot in 1968 when Captain Kolgen first saw it. This car has been decoded by Galen Govier and is in the Chrysler Registry. This is definitely a number one condition car, ready for any concourse shows. After the car was completed in January 2013, it was driven sparingly, only to local cruise in’s and shows, where it never failed to win a top award. This car was invited to Chryslers of Carlisile on a special invitation to be displayed inJuly 2013. In August 2013, this car received top awards at the prestigious Mopar Nationals in Columbus Ohio. In fact, the car scored 93 out of a possible 100 points where it was judged by the National Mopar Judges.Documentation available. :drive: :drive: :drive:

Below is a description of condition of car. :yesnod: :yesnod:
Exterior –
The body was chemically stripped after disassembly. Very minimal, small metal patches were done where minor rust was present. The car retains all of its original sheet metal including quarter panels and floors. The car was then entirely powder coated with a special primer. Minor body work was performed. Car was block sanded to perfection, and then painted with a base coat – clear coat of JJ1 Ember Gold Metallic. We added just a small amount more of metal flake to the formula, to make this stunning finish. All surfaces, including under chassis was painted to match. Paint was then wet sanded and buffed to a high gloss. As with any car, or painter, or paint job, there are some barely visible, very minor imperfections you will need to hunt for photobucket link. Overall the paint is a 9 to 9.5 out of 10.
All body panels and gaps were adjusted for proper fit and appearance. Doors have new door hinges.
The chrome and trim is done to show quality. The bumpers were re-chromed, and all of the stainless trim was buffed and polished to perfection. Even the wing window vent assemblies have been re-chromed. All weather stripping is new.
The Glass on this car is all tinted and in superior condition. The only glass replaced was the windshield.
The grille, headlamp doors, and tail panel were re –anodized and hand detailed to correct appearance.
Rims are the original 14” H code, dated wheels that came when the car was new, including the original Dog Dish hubcaps, which were hand polished and paint detailed. Tires are new BF Goodrich redline 225-70-14 radials.







Interior-
The dash was removed from the car and completely disassembled. All switches and gauges were checked for proper operation, cleaned and polished. The AM/FM radio was cleaned and checked for proper operation. I added the electronic circuit board to the original Tachometer, and an electronic instrument cluster voltage regulator. All bulbs were replaced. Switch panel characters were hand detailed. The dash pad is perfect and the entire dash appears as new.
The new Legendary head liner was professionally installed. All new Legendary door panels, seat foams, and seat covers, in the correct color and grain as original. Carpet is new Legendary. Window cranks and inside, outside door handles are perfect. I even used the 68 only black push buttons on the outside door handles. All new window fuzzies and weather stripping. Original Seat belts were restored, and have date tags.
Undercarriage-
The K frame, all control arms, torsion bars, strut rods and sway bar have been powder coated in the correct colors. All front suspension parts are new. The differential housing, third member and drive shaft have also been powder coated. Leaf springs were re arched and then disassembled to be powder coated and reassembled with new shims. The rear backing plates, brake drums and front brake rotors were powder coated as well, as the spindles. The rare 4 piston disc calipers were stainless sleeved and powder coated. All new stainless fuel and brake lines installed. New fuel tank and sending unit.
Drive Train-
The entire drive train is numbers matching to the car. The original HP383 was completely rebuilt. Bored .030 over with stock size engine bearings. The only engine change was the addition of a Comp Cam EX274. Engine retains the original rebuilt cylinder heads, intake manifold, exhaust manifolds,carburetor, distributor and wire looms and bell housing. Engine and engine bay appear as they did new, in 1968. Car retains its original brake booster, master cylinder, wiper motor, steering gear box and steering pump, all restored to new condition.



The original A833 4spd transmission was rebuilt with new bearings and synchronizers.
The original shifter was rebuilt using new shim plates and bushings. Re-chromed handle and original knob
The original 3:23 differential was disassembled, checked, cleaned and reassembled. :) Send a private message for an email address or phone number or to make a deal. You will love this car . Looks like the gold road runner that was shown being restored on FBBO awhile back. Very nice work involved. GLWS.
