Hi,
the 69 Road Runner is the car of the year 1969, is this right?
If yes, is there a offical sticker for it?

I dunno... When the Vega came out it was a pretty revolutionary car. It was one of the first "serious" small cars that the big 3 had sold. The aluminum block with no liners was cutting edge. I drove a couple of them with suspension packages and I liked them.

Of course.... they rotted... All the cars did then... and no liners in the block didn't really work out either.

Then you have guys like my brother.... He moved to Dallas in the early seventies. He needed a cheap car to bang around town and bought a worn out Vega. Then another.... and another.... He would buy them cheap, sleeve the engine and drive the wheels off them. He had one... his wife had one... both his kids had one... He would always have one in the works as a replacement for the fleet.

I remember as a kid 2 of my neighbors had them and they had nothing but trouble
 
Vega + 283/powerglide and no frame connectors + lead foot teenager = cracked windshield and a rear hatch that won't open...

My father went to buy his first new car in 1960,the 61's were out. At that time compact cars were the rage,he looked at many new cars Fords,Plymouths,Chevy's etc. he picked up a copy of Motor Trend and they had choosen the Pontiac Tempest as Car of the Year for 61.My dad said being naive at the time he figured those guys must know what they are talking about. He bought a red and white Tempest with the 4 banger they made out of one half of a Pontiac V8, auto rope driveshaft. It was the worst car he ever owned,the first major trip they went on it threw its timing chain,and it was all downhill from there.He never had much use for Motor Trend after that,we always had Car and Driver in the house when I was a kid,very rare to see a Motor Trend. :D
 
A good freind of mine had a Cosworth Vega back in the late 70's. He sold it to my dad eventually. Black with gold accent striping black leather interior and manual trans. The exhaust note was the best I've ever heard on a 4 cylinder car, and yes, it ran very well for a 4 banger! I always liked that car.
