I stumbled accros this link this morning on Fox News. Pretty interesting stuff - some surprises assuming that the data is correct. Scroll through the slides to see the least and most socialist states in the U.S.

The definition in which they based the article is flawed. For instance Wyoming is shown to have a large state gross domestic product which it does and that's due to all the coal and other natural resources that comes off of state land. That is off set by the lack of state taxes and few people. Believe me there are no handouts in that state and they are rated in the top 5 of most socialistic. Still kind of interesting.
