I have installed the system and running my wires. The instruction sheet that came with the new distributor and ECU suggest that the black wire goes to the coil, blue wire to ballast on the ignition side, and the green wire is not used. I'm wondering can I use it as an additional ground or just wrap it up with the rest of the harness as unused?

IMO, Just bundle it up and tape it to the harness, don't ground it or attach it to anything. It does not appear to be used in this application. The 5-wire box is for '71 (or '72?) & up with a 4-prong ballast.
