At the risk of sounding like an idiot, I have to open this thread.

Said a million times I have an 72 440 HP, 484 cam, Bigger valves
and springs installed, OEM lower end and other parts of the valve
train I believe are OEM as well, OEM compression (nice and LOOOOOWWWW).

What oil should this self proclaimed ignorant car owner run? I've been
running valvoline 10-40 off the shelf average stuff.

I have a solid, flat and use non- synthetic Valvoline VR1 20-50.......you need zinc which is in the oil

Has anyone had a problem with hydraulic flat tappet cams without the use of zinc, I thought it was mechanical only that was wiping out lobes after break in?

I'm pretty sure hydraulics wipe out too. I think there were a couple of big threads about this a few years back on Moparts.
