Patch panel installation 69 RR coupe

I was wondering if anyone knows of a video, or some other form of display that would show how to install a metal patch panel on the passenger side lower rear quarter from about one inch above the side marker hole to the bottom of the quarter. The new panel would extend to about the 1/3rd mark of the wheel lip.I never tried a splice like this before, so any help is great. Thanks in advance.

Just remember that heat causes distortion. Jump around with short welds to minimize warpage and you may want some wet rags to use to keep cooling things off. Large overlaps on a patch will tend to trap dirt and moisture later so fit the patch as well as you can.

A lot of guys have gone to using 3M panel bond adhesive and avoid welding altogether. If used correctly it will form a permanent seal the around the entire perimeter of the patch. It's less work and takes less time. It's a 2 part adhesive that requires a special mixing applicator that looks like a double-barreled caulk gun. Without the heat there is no distortion. A lot of new cars are (partially) assembled with it today instead of weld. If you do choose to try that route, you will cut the patch bigger and overlap the patch with the adhesive sandwiched between the quarter and the patch panel. The better you get the patch to fit, the less finish work you'll have to do later. Body shops that use it will still weld panels on where they were designed to be welded but then use the adhesive where they need to seam 2 pieces together in the middle of a panel. This adhesive is extremely strong and the parts will not come apart once they're assembled.

did you get your repair panels yet? there is a guy on moparts selling a pair of 1/4 skins, that he used the wheel arch from. IIRC he was selling the skins for $40....each. But ithey would be perfect for cutting front and rear patches from.
