Do I need to rebuild or do anything to either of these before installing?

It depends, do you want the stock feel or a firmer feel steering? Unless the pump leaks it should be fine and can be replaced easily later, the steering gear is the pain to do later. pick stock, borgeson or firm feel as alternates.
