Is there a clip or something that holds the speedo gear into it's housing
Took it out lastnight to see why it isn't working . I see the two holes on the side of the shaft on the inside of the housing is it for a clip to hold the gear in , or does the gear just float in there

Go to pg 21-18 of the service manual. It appears to simply stay in position without a clip.

No clip on the gear, but there is a clamp that holds the housing to the trans, but you probably have that. The housing does "index" for different gears though. If the housing isn't in the right spot, the gear won't engage.
