i was looking on google at these prc radiators and came across a chevy tri five website.and this looks like my problem....

There is one way the thermostat can cause overheating. That's if it doesn't open fully.

I had this happen to me once. The engine would warm up normally and the temperature would level off near the thermostat setting. But if you drove over 65-70 mph the temperature would climb rapidly. It would fall again if the speed was slowed.

A quick check of the bad thermostat and a new in a pot of boiling water showed exactly what the problem was.

this is exactly what my car is doing...this would be nice if its this simple

My car actually ran too cool with a 160 low flow stat.

I put in a 190 high flow and it runs better. Holds 185-190 now. Was holding 170-180 depending on outside temp before.

The AVS hated the cold temps.

I do have a stock bore 383 and a 26 inch radiator. I also have an Edelbrock pump. This is the second car I have ran one on and it is the 2nd car that has ran cool :drive:

I don't fool with drilling the stat either.

Runs about 170 moving. at lights right at 180-185
drove her for about 5 hours last Sunday 95 degrees outside
No issues.
But than again just a .040 over 383 with a 355 gear 4 speed

Sounds like that water pump moves some serious water through the radiator...if it moves too fast you cannot cool it sufficiently...sometimes a point that is overlooked...
