Side marker lights

Purchased in October 1967 new 1968 RR, had side markers front & rear, but did not have
the side marker lit, was it something that became standard in cars produced in 1968?

1968 was the first year for the side marker.

68 Roadrunner had a round marker that lit up, 69 was a rectangular reflector.
