Speedo Cable

Need to replace my speedo cable. Looks pretty staight forward. Any do's or don'ts I need to be aware of before I go for it?

I would disconnect the cable at the speedo and tie a string or something to it and then pull it from the bottom. Then use the string to the new cable and pull it back thru.
