This morning I had to park my truck indefinitely. For now, the only thing I have drivable is the X's 68 Satellite. It's had a re-start issue for quite awhile. On a cold motor, she'll start just fine. I'll drive somewhere local and shut her off for anywhere from 5-45 minutes. When I try to re-start it, she wont fire. She'll crank over and over which will of course flood it. Ive tried:
1) not touching the gas pedal at all
2) holding the pedal halfway, and
3) flooring the pedal to dump the carb.
There's really no rhyme or reason to it. Nothing seems to help. Sometimes she'll fire right up, other times, like this morning, she'll flood and either not start for 45 minutes or get towed if need be.
Any ideas on what's causing this, and what a possible remedy might be? The car itself is a 273ci 2 bbl carb with points ignition.
One of the first things I did to my RR was convert it to electronic ignition years ago. I haven't driven it under these conditions since 2009, so I dont remember everything, but I seem to recall the bird firing up right away with no issues. (Well, I did develop a no-start, everything dead issue which hasn't been addressed yet, but that's unrelated to this problem.)
The car isnt mine to convert over to electronic ignition, but it's my only set of wheels right now. Plus, I really dont want to sink $200+ into a car that I wont keep, especially with the truck needing an all new brake system. Gotta have something halfway reliable though...
Thanks!
