Hey, if you guys can help, please chime in.

I'm reasonably convinced my car has a cop car engine.
I know for CERTAIN its a '72 HP 440. It was on a lift
yesterday and took note of the oil pan number (#699).
A few minutes of internet research revealed that this is
a c-body stamping.

Ok...so according to what I discovered, the only 1972 440 hp
blocks that made their way into a c-body were cop cars
(like the dodge polara). #699 pan was only offered in
1972 - 73.

440 tnt engine was discontinued after 1971, and I found
nothing to indicate that any regular land yachts outside
of cop cars would have an HP motor.

Any input?

Sam:

What I know about C-Bodies wouldn't fill a thimble half-full, but I did some snooping around over on allpar.com which has some decent MoPar history and chronologies. Seems your assessment of the situation is correct. Looks like you probably have an E86 440 out of a '72 C-Body Cop Car on your hands... If you're lucky enough to have a full VIN on the pan rail you'll know for sure when you scrape the crud off of that bad boy.

I'm glad I had a leak down test done on this car before I bought it.
Cops can have a heavy foot like the rest of us sometimes.
