I have a 1970 roadrunner and it has the factory (sleeper) steel wheels. Would like to run the same size tire 15" front and rear without getting into all that fender wheel well rubbing. The current tire in front is a BFG 225-70-15"(redlines). Is it possible to go a a little fatter?

Thanxs in advance!

I have 245/60/15 on my car on 7” factory “5th Ave.” wheels. To go wider would’ve needed a wider rim than 7”, according to my tire guy. I wanted a 70 series tire because I like a tall tire on a B body, but the widest they make in a 70 series for a 7” tire is a 235mm. I’ve grown to like the tires I have. I’ve also since lowered the front a bit with this combo, so it looks even better now

Nice RR! I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of the exact same 70RR. The BFG (redlines) on mine are in very nice shape..225-70-15 front & 235-70-15 rear. The 70 series do fill the well nicely. I too would like to go a little wider all the way around with say 245-60-15 F&R but the redlines look so nice and still have some real miles left on them may be i'll just get 2 235-70-15's for the front.
Or pull all of the redlines and sell on CL. and go get BFG T/A's or Cooper Cobras.
Any ideas...Please & Thanks!

My tire guy talked me into the 245/60’s, and I’m glad he did. The only thing I would consider changing would be if I used some 15x8” steelies from an earlier Ramcharger, then I would go back to a 70 series sidewall and a 265. Those rims are tough to find, but my brother has a knack of finding them. If I were you I would consider the Coopers over the BFG, the BFG tires are not what they used to be, they are a harder compound, don’t ride as well, and have a problem of the white letters yellowing or just plain turning brown. Of course, you can mull that one over while you’re riding on the redlines, which is always a very nice look.

I am leaning towards the 245-60-15 Cooper gt’s. More is’nt necessarily better but a 255-60-15 on the front might be a little fender rub issue. Plus my spare is a 225-70-15 and I don’t know if there would be an issue at the rear with revolution’s in case of a flat.
That idea of all the same all around is where I’d like to be. That just brings me back to the original? Best beefy tire on the factory Steeles that works.

I say the 245/60 is the optimal tire size for a 15x7” rim.
