1 is the coupler at the steering box splined in such a way that it goes on only one way?(steering wheel upside down) or do i have to take the coupler back apart and turn it 180degs?

2 temp gauge works fuel doesnt. if I ground temp it pegs the gauge. ground the fuel nothing. am I on the right track thinking its poss a break in the wire between tank and gauge?

more questions to come as I tackle more bugs !lol

Yes the coupler has a spline and goes on one way.
There is a wide flat spline so you can slide it on the steering box and it should slide on easy.

The fuel gauge not working do you have the ground from the sending unit to the fuel line connected?

I used a test light on both wires temp sender the light pulsed the gas had nothing
so it wont work if I take out the roll pin and spin it 180

Just a wild guess here, but are you getting the power for the gas at the bulkhead connector?

going to take off drivers kick panel and check for power at the rear wire harness connector

I don't know if it will work spinning it 180 or not.

I have manual steering and the box is a standard one 51/2 turns lock/lock so I took and put the coupler on the splined shaft then centered the coupler marked it and the box and installed the steering column and will let the alignment put the steering wheel in the center.

Fuel sending gauge works on a reading of resistance can you take your sending unit out of the tank and hook it up direct to the gauge? my fuel gauge was wacky for two reasons one cluster circuit board broken trace and two the gauge itself needed calibration. If you ever pull you gauge out look on the back you will see two small holes top and bottom look closely there are tips of a gear showing through the hole these are used to make the set points on the gauge i.e. full and empty, mine was way off. all better now.

You can check your sending unit with a meter on ohms place leads on connector post and to body of unit then move the rod up and down slowly and watch the meter go up I think 10 ohms to 50 ohms(guessing) if that works then hook the gauge up to the wire at the tank and turn on key and manually move the unit up and down if there is no movement on the gauge then move on to making sure the wire to the tank is good it is one of the pins on the cluster harness purple I think. if it's good then use my method above to make sure the needle moves and is set right. MAKE SURE SENDING UNIT IS GROUNDED VERY IMPORTANT. there is a strap that connects the outlet tube to the steel line to the pump at the tank "ground strap" without it you will not get accurate readings.

Get the front wheels straight first. Get the toe in set with a tape measure making sure the length of the tie rods are close. I'll bet the steering wheel is straight after that.

Big John I forgot to put that down as that's what I did before I even put the coupler on and centered it and the threads on the tie rods are almost even!
