Vehicle Destination

Is the vehicle order number a specific number to which each vehicle off the assembly line is headed for a specific destination? If not what purpose did it serve?

It was a number the dealer and factory used to track the vehicle. Doubtful that it was destination-specific in all cases as sales bank cars have these numbers also - but I'm no expert.
