I've got my new Weld Prostars fitted on the car.Just a couple of concerns,the rims are a lot thicker than my Cragers,you can't see the studs when the wheel is mounted.I've done some measurements and I'm getting about 17mm of thread engagement on the stock studs with the long shank nuts supplied.Will I be ok with that ?
The wheels seem to be very secure,it just seems a lot of stress will be on the studs with them not running all the way through the wheel.
Is anyone else running or has run Welds on stock length studs ?

IIRC when I ran aluminum slots , the studs didn't stick out much either.

I am rusty at this but I think I recall that if you can get a nut to grab at least the diameter of the bolt/stud you will have sufficient clamping power. Maybe someone else on the forum is more up or knowledgeable about this. If you have 17 mm of thread engagement that is 0.68 in. I don't recall the stud diameter but thought it might be 1/2 inch.

Can you install longer studs?

First off your wheels look great. Pro Stars are one of my all time favorites!! The studs will strip eventually and ruin the lug nut. I use nuts from Summit Racing that have a long reach that will engage the stud 1 inch. NHRA rules dictate the the nut needs to have contact with the stud equal to its diameter. Stock studs are 1/2 inch and you will need that much engagement to be legal to race. That roughly is 13mm IIRC.

Thanks for the replies.I don't want to go with longer studs as they will be too long for the nuts for my Cragers(see pic) and I want to be able to switch and change when the mood takes me.I've got a set of the nuts that Chris recomends and also another set closed end so it looks like I'll be ok.
I just didn't want to do a burnout and the studs fail and wreck my rear quarters,so thought I'd check here first :thumbsup:

How much do you drive your car? It must get a lot of attention over there! What kind of octane is available in your "petrol"? Are there many American muscle cars in your area? What are the most popular ones?
 
Those wheels look good man. As Marty may agree with me, not quite as nice as an old set of polished slot mags, but they will do. Especially on a red car! Good luck with your issue.

Only other one I know of in town is a white 71 GTO vert,hadn't seen it since the late eighties and thought it had been sold long ago only for it to surface for sale on Ebay UK still at a Chesterfield address.Didn't sell so still here but never see it out and about.
