Welding and Brake Cleaner = Phosgene

wow...john thanks for the heads up....the guy was lucky to be alive and like he said....we take for granted things over the counter are safe....i will pass this on to all my friends

WOW. Man, that is a lot of physical damage to sustain from such a small amount of contact...

Phosgene???!!! That is one of the major componets in Lexan. Very scary stuff. How could a person buy this over the counter?

Most likely because most people don't bother to look for, or read, any safty warnings about these products. If the producer even cares to put them on their product. With all the regulations this government is pushing down our throats, maybe it's time they made it mandatory to supply the "Material Safety Data Sheets," in the stores where these are sold. Any of you in industry, or related business will know about the MSDS forms and that they have to have them around their shop. Now it seems that we need them in the stores too.

I think that's what scary about it. Brake cleaner is in just about everybody's garage. While the label does have this warning about using on stuff being welded, I don't know if I would have thought about it.

I think the most important thing to be learned here is to use things for what they are intended for.
