So I understand this is my first post on this forum as I just found this site tonight, but seeing you guys also have a section for guns even made this site that much better as I spend alot of time on AR15.com and Calguns.net.

So for all of you Roadrunner and gun enthusiasts here is my dilemma; for the past few years I have been spending thousands of dollars assembling several custom AR's with high end parts and collecting several other Long Rifles and pistols. My gun collection is finally complete as I have purchased all, but three guns on my must have list. Due to my lack of personal time with two young ones at home, half of these have not even made it out to the range and instead sit quietly in my safes. I pull them out, look them over and become torn about parting ways with them, but then when I begin thinking about the reality of why I have several of the same style guns by different manufactures I begin to ponder the true purpose of them and see $$$ I could be putting into a Roadrunner and driving the wife and kids around in style on the weekends lol.

For the past couple of years I have gone back and forth, but within the past few months I have become quite serious to the point where I have posted adds willing to trade a large part of my collection (75-80%) for a 68-70 Roadrunner. For whatever reason it would be easier for me just to give up the collection at once, rather than selling individually. Another issue is I reside in CA and for the past few years they have been going after alot of the guns I possess.

So here is the question, being car fanatics like myself and also a gun fanatics, what would you do given my situation. Would you keep the guns in the collection and take the next few years building a Roadrunner slowly as extra funds become available, or would you sell 75-80% of the collection and just get the car built quickly over the next year..

Your input is greatly appreciated.

That's a tough question and it will be a tough answer.
My advice, go with your gut feelings.
Which would you and your family get the most enjoyment out of?
Like the song says, "When you choose not to decide, you still have made chose."
Best wishes!

I know what Ray would say. Keep the guns and buy every mopar in sight, but he's a hoarder. Its a collection and hard to part with, I got to the point that I just don't need anymore and I don't want to clean all day after shooting so I take a few at a time. Have I sold any? no, but I would if I had duplicates. Just stop and get busy on the runner.

That is the question right there. If you have duplicates I'd sell them and put the $$$ toward or into a RR, but that is just me. Family is most important so if you can keep some of the guns and sell some I'd do that. I mean, you can still protect your family with the ones you decide to keep, right?

Keep the guns you can't live without and get to the runner. And family always comes first. Go with your heart.

Thanks guys.. That's what I have been thinking. Although I take my elder daughter shooting with me, my wife could care less to go with me to the range and the littlest one still has a few years to go. The RR is something I could enjoy with the family rather than collecting dust in the safe. Looks like I am going to be listing a few guns tonight on the other forums. LOL

You'll still have some stuff to go shoot, so it's just what you want for toys.

IMHO, get the car. I have more fun with my car and share my fun with family and friends that I might not go shooting with. You can still go shooting... or better yet, drive the Roadrunner to the shooting range. Can't have much more fun than that with your clothes on.

Just keep enough of the guns for personal protection, and get into that Road Runner.:cents:

I am about 3 years ahead of this same curve. I had a bunch of guns that just sat around and did nothing. Decided to "Thin the heard" and kept what I actually use plus a couple that may come in useful for future events. However, I didn't have the Roadrunner yet, so my extra gun money went into motorcycles. Actually thinking of thinning THAT heard a bit now that there is a Roadrunner being built.

I say, be honest with yourself and keep only what you use, PLUS one or two that you feel are special, but could actually use for something if the time comes. Liquidate the rest.

Thanks to a divorce a number of years ago, a large part of my firearm collection has been sold off. I guess paying bills is more important. Ive regretted most of the sales, but a few have stung worse than others. I would seriously consider a few things here...

1) How much will you get in a sale vs how much you paid? The majority of the time you will lose quite a bit of cash. Something to think about.
2) How easily can you replace the gun you just sold? Selling that "rare" gun can get you some cash, but you'll eventually want it back, if you're a true gun nut.
3) And most important to your situation, living in California Im sure only compounds #2.

I would give serious thought to your situation. I dont shoot most of mine either anymore, especially since the last ammo craze. I haven't sold any though, and I dont intend on it either.

Believe it or not, you can live without a gun. I love things that go bang, but you can't really buy them here.

Get the Roadrunner :).

My thoughts exactly. If you really put your time and effort and huge planning into them I say keep'em. But If you can get a numbers matching 68-69, I'd trade a lot of stuff for that!
