Do I understand that your hood stripes are vinyl and not painted on?

That is accurate. My car is original, and did not come with performance hood stripes via my fender tag. SO..I like the look, I didn't want to shell out serious money to repaint the cowl, fenders, and hood. And when I sell her, if the next owner wants them off...boom. just peel off.

Lot of nice looking cars out that day.

Which one of the two in the back seat get the car and then you have to get another car ready for the next in line.

You've peaked my interest. I looks just like a factory job. I have searched for such a thing but found none. Where did you get it? How much? How hard was the installation?

i became very interested in this method and started questioning sign companies that also do vehicle wraps for businesses...and a local guy that happens to play in a band at the bar I work at owns such a business. So the material was about $60 (2 yards) and labor was 3-3.5 hours, I removed the center inserts, wiper arms, hood emlem, 383 emblems, and fins...He charged me $250.00 total and they nailed it!

Thanks for sharing. Great pics.

Great idea and execution on the vinyl wrap. Looks awesome and not permanent. Fantastic approach.

Dave - that Caddy looks like it might be a 4X4 based on what I can see of it...

clever idea for the hood stripes I really like it, and as a plus maybe it will be wax safe unlike flat black and maybe won't fade as bad either

it supposedly has a 10 yr protection on fading, so considering the minimal use and garage kept, I figure it should go at least 15-20yrs...however the way I go through classic cars, it will def be sold before then lol.

Thanks, I'll look into that, but not sure what you mean by "wrapped". I may be taking the word too literally.

He told you - but you missed it. It is a vinyl wrap - just like what is done on commercial vehicles. When you see a van covered from top to bottom with lettering and designs and ads - those are not painted on. WAY TOO EXPENSIVE FOR THAT MUCH HAND PAINTING AND LETTERING. They are sheets of printed vinyl that are adhered to the vehicle's paint. When you want to change it you simply peel it off. The application process is called "Wrapping". Instead of ads for "Harvey's Mortuary" on his hood and fenders, he has matte stripes...

nope, wrapped is a very accurate description of the process. they do whole cars, trucks etc. they can achieve some pretty incredible results fairly economically. this months MCG had a very nice example of it
