Coolant temp question.

UPDATE: The Wire reenforced hose proved to be too tough to maneuver around the oil filter so I went with the stainless steel 1.75" OD spring inside of the existing hose. Operating from 180-195 degrees F whether being flogged, driving through town in stoplight to stoplight traffic, or cruising the interstate.

Thanks for the tips quikbird and 69hemibeep. You guys nailed it, I owe you one!

The lower hose can be collapsed by hand which sounds like it is the main culprit for this problem. I will replace it with one that has the wire in it. The water pump housing is stock cast iron, clean and has the larger opening than some I've seen. The area between the core support and grill is covered by sheet metal. I installed that after I experimented and saw the hot, under hood air being drawn into the front of the radiator while at idle. That was one of my original problems. Rising temp at idle. Hopefully by changing the lower hose I can get rock solid temp readings at all speeds. Thank you all for the support in working through this problem.

If your hose is in good shape I think you can buy the spring.

entrophy1049, Where did you find the spring? I have not found a parts stores or Mopar restoration parts site that offer the spring.
