Special order RR

Hi just after some help/info on my recently-purchased 68 RR.

Ive gone through a couple of de-coding websites, but Im not able to find any more info on the y9 special order code. Is this something that ill only be able to get off the build sheet?

also just wondering what the E8R is from the radiator support stamp? E = LA? 8 = 68?

Yes the "E" = LA assembly plant and the "8" = model year 1968. The R I'm not sure of but my '68 Road Runner which was a St. Louis assembly plant ("G") had G8R and the sequence number found only on the lower right of the fender tag (if you have it) and on a broadcast sheet and dealer order sheet too (I think). Broadcast sheets from what I know are very rare for LA assembly plant cars.

The radiator support and trunk drip rail numbers do NOT match the VIN on a '68 Road Runner they are the build or order sequence number. Anyone know what the "R" is for?

Could the R be for regular fuel? Car was originally a 383. I also found R 8 stamped elsewhere on the block , all on their own, but the block stamp number indicates a 68-72 block.

That's the block casting clock that goes along with the casting date close to that cc. The "D" = Daylight shift and "N" = Night shift and the clock "hand" is pointing to what I think is the end of an 8-hour shift for that day/night or of the date casting numbers close by.

I found the "R" is to identify that the car is a Plymouth B-body or "R" series model as in the prefixes for Plymouth RM = Road Runner, RL for GTX, RS, RH, RP etc.,

wow thats the first ive heard that. they really had it down.

would the y9 code on the fender tag (special order) be there only because of the special order paint code (999)? or could there be another reason? im still trying to find the original colour. currently its Hemi orange, but from what i understand there were about 100 or so RR that came out of LA in Omaha orange - later vitamin c (?)

I don't think so. Do you have the broadcast sheet?

Unfortunately not. As the car was resprayed several years ago (pretty good job too) i think if they had found it surely it would have come with the car.

That being said, although the front bench seat looks pretty neat, its soft as so maybe, just maybe...

Ill have to have a look tomorrow.

My front seats were reupholstered by the previous owner and the sheet was still in the springs when I got it

look under the rear seat. tends to show up there fairly often

finally got a chance to pull the backseat out, unfortunately no luck. anywhere else i might get lucky?
