Just a quick question. Despite removing the rubber molding and sanding the paint down, I cannot find any numbers on the drivers side lip trunk molding. Is it a 100% guarantee on 1970 cars this should be there? Thanks

Do you have one on the radiator support? I have one that I am working on that was rear ended early in life and factory replacement parts were used to repair it so no numbers. One owner car so the history is known.

Couldn't find that one there either. A friend said that sometimes they are stamped on the support BETWEEN the support and radiator, so we are going to loosen the radiator next weekend and see. Numbers matching on the fender tag, the engine block and the vin # appears original with original unmolested rivets. I just have a blank radiator support and a blank left rear trunk lip. It is causing me registration problems in NV.

with the big three, fender tag, vin plate and block what more do they want??
It's Nevada. They are a real pain in the butt, when it comes to classic cars. Then again, it all depends on who you get. I had similar problems with a 1969 Charger a few years back. The Radiator support had come from another vehicle during a rebuild, so the Order # did not match the VIN #/Fender Tag, so they failed me. I simply went to another DMV, got a "cooler Dude" that loved the car and passed it right through. It's basically a roll of the dice here on who you get.

That is a shame to go through that. After all these car's have to be rebuilt to fix them. But rules are rules. Glad you found a way to get the charger passed. Hope you get this one done also. Good luck.

My fingers are crossed. The problem is, many of today's DMV people have no clue about older cars and they are just following protocol. Some of them act like state troopers and just use their authority to make your life miserable.

Same here...The car has a current FL registration, so I am hoping this will help me get the car through, but who knows. Again, it just boils down to who you get and the kind of day they are having. The power of authority!

Ct also does a VIN check on vehicles from out of state. It's usually not a problem but if you have an antique car from out of state that has a VIN plate not held on my rivets, and doesn't have a second set of vin numbers stamped on the car. Like '65 and earlier Mopars. When I went to register a '65 Barracuda I had a hell of a time convincing them that this car didn't have that second stamping on the car. Finally after 3 weeks, and showing them my '64 Barracuda that is set up the same way and had been registered for 6 years at that point, they saw it my way.

i once lined up 3 times in a row at the same RMS (the DMV down under) before i got someone who understood. it literally only takes a few clicks on the keyboard to sort your problem out. the bigger issue is always the punk behind the counter.
